4. If you’re looking for something that’s small, yet festive then a cute ornament to hang off the Christmas tree is the way to go. Animal decorations are a great Australiana memento and are super easy to travel with.

5. With so much of our lives spent online it’s a joy to give and receive an actual book nowadays. You could go for something fun with an educational spin like Aussie Legends Alphabet or A is for Australia, share real-life Australian stories such as Anh Do’s Happiest Refugee or Pushing the Limits by Kurt Fearnley, or offer a glimpse of Oz from an outsider’s perspective with Bill Bryson’s Down Under: Travels in a Sunburned Country.

6. Australia is a sports-mad country. Whether it’s cricket, rugby league, soccer, AFL, netball or rugby union – there’s a team or player to cheer for no matter the time of year. 8. While Australian wine is always a good gift, you may want to consider something a little more unique like a bottle of locally-made gin, an award-winning rum or craft beer. There are plenty of excellent drops to choose from but remember – you need to be 18 years or older to purchase and consume alcohol in Australia. Limits also apply when transporting alcohol on flights.
9. Ask anyone from overseas what food Australia is famous for and they’ll probably say prawns, TimTams and Vegemite (see #1 on the list). But as an international student, we hope you’ve experienced the Aussie tradition of going to Bunnings for a sausage on bread. It might be basic – but it’s bloody delicious!
