Blog: Our AHN story: Fish and Chips
We have done homestay for 9 1/2 years and had some awesome experiences and shared amazing memories with our students. Our best experience is with a young lady called “Fish”. She joined our family in February 2012 and stayed with us until November 2013 and again with us towards then end of 2014 for 4 months.
We have always included our students in most of our family activities especially on weekends – going to the beach, fish n chips on the bay, games night or a fire in the back yard. Celebrating important dates- welcoming dinner, 18th birthday ( cake, champagne and present) and a farewell dinner.
We were blessed that Fish joined us and just was a great connection straight away with the family. She enjoyed playing with the children, also happy to help out in the household and embraced our busy lifestyle.
Fish has been here since the birth of our 3rd child, she still comes to over to play with the children or babysit them. We ask her to house sit our new home, the cat and the students at present when we go on holiday. We taught her how to drive, welcomed her boyfriend into our family and the children call him “ Chips”. She has stayed with my husbands’ family in Europe. Her parents have come to Australia and invited us out for dinner and met up the last 3 years for a Boxing Day leftovers afternoon.
We have the upmost respect for her and treat her as a second daughter.
